What is the Zip order expiry policy?
Uncaptured Zip orders automatically expire after 3 or 9 months, depending on the Zip product used during authorisation.
This timeframe ensures merchants have sufficient time to capture funds and helps protect customers from unfulfilled or delayed orders.
Expiry periods by product:
Zip Pay – Orders expire 3 months from the date of authorisation.
Zip Money and Zip Plus – Orders expire 9 months from the date of authorisation.
What should I do if an order is close to expiring?
If an order is nearing its expiry date, we recommend reviewing it as soon as possible to decide whether to capture or cancel the remaining funds.
Taking action before expiry helps prevent inconvenience caused by automatic cancellation.
Where can I find the order expiry date?
You can view the expiry date for any order by opening it in your Zip Merchant Dashboard under the Orders tab.
What happens to uncaptured funds when an order expires?
For authorised orders, any uncaptured funds are cancelled automatically when the order expires. The order status will update to ‘Cancelled’.
For partially captured orders, only the uncaptured portion will be cancelled after the expiry period.
Example:
If you authorise a $1,000 Zip Pay order on 1 January 2025 and capture $900, the remaining $100 will automatically expire on 2 April 2025 if left uncaptured. The order status will then update to ‘Completed’.
What happens to captured funds when an order expires?
Captured funds are not affected by the expiry period — you’ll retain all funds that have already been captured.
What if my order expires, but I still need to capture funds?
If an order expires before you’ve captured all funds, you’ll need to authorise a new order from the Create Order page for the remaining amount.
Please note, funds are not guaranteed until the customer approves the new order.
Will I be notified about orders nearing expiry?
You can opt in to receive expiry notification emails from your Zip Merchant Dashboard under the Settings>Notifications section.
Can the expiry period be extended?
Expiry periods are fixed and cannot be extended. We recommend managing your orders within these timeframes to ensure smooth processing.
If these timeframes do not suit your business needs, please contact our Merchant Experience Team to discuss available options.
